LED Wall Size and Price Guide: 8×12 and the Other Common Sizes

The sizes Indian buyers actually ask for, what each one costs at each pitch, and why the screen you get is never exactly the size you asked for.

  • Manufacturer warranty
  • GST invoice
  • Pan-India delivery
  • On-site service in Karnataka
  • Transparent, published pricing

More people search for an 8×12 LED wall than for any other size in India, by a wide margin. It is the size that gets asked for on a first call, quoted without anyone checking whether it fits, and then quietly changed at the site survey. This page covers what it costs, what you actually get, and the six other sizes that come up.

What an 8 × 12 costs

Ninety-six square feet, whichever way round you build it. That is the number every quotation is really working from, because LED is sold by area — so the cost follows the pitch you choose far more than the shape.

SizeAreaIndicative range (Outdoor P4–P5)Typically
12 × 8 ft96 sq ft₹3.4 – 6.7 lakhThe most requested size in India — shop frontages, showroom walls, stage backdrops
An outdoor 12 × 8 ft at P4–P5, the usual specification for a shop frontage. Indicative ranges, exclusive of 18% GST. Final price depends on pitch, brightness, cabinet type, structure, cabling and site conditions. We confirm everything in a written quote after a free site assessment.

Change the pitch and the same 96 sq ft moves a long way. This is the single biggest lever on the number at the bottom of a quotation, and it is worth understanding before you compare two of them.

CategoryPitchView fromIndicative ₹/sq ftBest for
Outdoor P10P1010 m₹1,500₹3,500Cheapest outdoor option. Fine for highway boards and rooftop displays read from 10 m or further. Text and bold graphics only — photographs look coarse at this pitch.
Outdoor P6–P8P6–P86 m₹2,500₹5,000The usual choice for a roadside shop board. Top of the range buys higher brightness and a die-cast cabinet; the bottom is typically an iron cabinet with a lower-tier LED chip.
Outdoor P4–P5P4–P54 m₹3,500₹7,000The outdoor sweet spot. Sharp enough for video and photographs at shop-frontage distances. Insist on 5,000+ nits and IP65 on every exposed side — an under-specified P4 can wash out badly at noon.
Indoor P3–P4P3–P43 m₹3,000₹6,000Auditoriums, large showroom walls, anywhere viewers stay 3 m back. Cheapest way to get a genuinely large indoor screen.
Indoor P2–P2.5P2–P2.52 m₹6,000₹12,000Retail interiors, reception walls, worship halls. Comfortable from about 2 m, which covers most indoor rooms people actually stand in.
Indoor P1.2–P1.9 (fine pitch)P1.2–P1.91 m₹10,000₹16,000Boardrooms, studios, premium lobbies — screens people stand right next to. Only worth the cost below about 3 m; past that it is indistinguishable from P4.

Two quotations for "an 8×12 LED wall" can differ by three times and both be honest. If you are comparing, the first thing to check is not the total — it is the pitch, the brightness and the cabinet material. Our pixel pitch guide covers how to choose the pitch; the price guide covers what pushes a quote to the top or bottom of each band.

What resolution you actually get

This is the part almost nobody explains, and it decides whether your content will look the way you imagine it.

A 12 × 8 ft screen is roughly 3,658 mm by 2,438 mm. Divide by the pitch and you have the pixel count:

PitchApprox. pixelsTotalWhat that means in practice
P2.51,463 × 975~1.4 MPComfortably sharper than Full HD in the vertical. Fine text and dashboards are legible.
P31,219 × 813~1.0 MPClose to 720p. Good for video and reasonably sized text.
P4914 × 610~0.6 MPBelow 720p. Video looks fine; small text starts to break up.
P6610 × 406~0.25 MPBold text and simple graphics. Not photographs.
P8457 × 305~0.14 MPHeadline text only.
P10366 × 244~0.09 MPA Full HD video is being squeezed to about a fifth of its width. Logos and large type only.
Approximate, before cabinet rounding — see below. Pixel counts assume the screen is built to the nominal size.

Why you cannot order an exact size

An LED wall is not cut to size. It is assembled from cabinets, and the finished screen is always a whole number of them in each direction. Ask for 12 × 8 ft and you will be offered the nearest buildable rectangle.

Common cabinet dimensions across the industry:

CabinetMetricIn feetUsually
500 × 500 mm0.25 m²1.64 × 1.64 ftIndoor and rental — the most flexible for odd sizes
640 × 480 mm0.31 m²2.10 × 1.57 ftIndoor fixed installations
960 × 960 mm0.92 m²3.15 × 3.15 ftOutdoor — fewer joints, fewer fixings
1000 × 500 mm0.5 m²3.28 × 1.64 ftWide formats and banner shapes
320 × 160 mm0.05 m²1.05 × 0.52 ftModule size — the unit inside most outdoor cabinets

A worked example, because this is where expectations break. Take an outdoor P4 built from 960 mm cabinets and ask for 12 × 8 ft:

  • Across: 3,658 mm ÷ 960 = 3.81 cabinets. You get 4, so 3,840 mm — about 12.6 ft, slightly wider than asked.
  • Down: 2,438 mm ÷ 960 = 2.54 cabinets. You get either 2 (6.3 ft, noticeably short) or 3 (9.45 ft, noticeably tall).
  • The buildable screen is 12.6 × 9.45 ft, not 12 × 8 — and at 119 sq ft it is about a quarter more area than you priced.

The way out is usually to pick the cabinet to suit the opening rather than the other way round. A 500 mm cabinet divides 12 × 8 ft far more closely than a 960 mm one, at the cost of more joints. Where a screen has to fit an existing recess or sit between two pillars, we size the cabinet to the gap at the survey and quote the buildable dimensions, not the requested ones.

Indoor screens at the same dimensions land differently, because the pitch is finer and the cabinet is lighter:

What else moves the price

  • Brightness. An outdoor screen below about 5,000 nits can struggle badly in afternoon sun — how badly depends on which way it faces and how much of it sits in shade. Ask for 5,000+, and 8,000+ where it faces direct sun. This is the most common corner cut in a cheap quotation and it is invisible in a showroom.
  • Cabinet material. Die-cast aluminium against fabricated iron: lighter, flatter joints, better heat handling, and more expensive.
  • Refresh rate. If the screen will be photographed or filmed, specify 3,840 Hz. Below that it commonly bands on camera, and the driver ICs set the ceiling at manufacture — so it is bought, not tuned in later.
  • Ingress protection. Confirm the rating for every side actually exposed to weather — IP65 front and rear is our standard for a cabinet fully in the open, while a screen fixed flat to a building has its back covered already. Monsoon exposure is not an edge case in India.
  • Structure and installation. A ground-level shop board and a first-floor facade mounting are different jobs at the same screen size.
  • Service access. Front-service cabinets cost more and need no rear clearance. Where a screen sits against a wall, that is not a preference — it is the only way to service it.

How to decide

  1. Measure the space the screen has to fit, including anything that constrains it — a shutter, a beam, two pillars.
  2. Measure how far the nearest regular viewer stands — the viewing distance calculator at /viewing-distance-calculator/ turns that into a pitch. That sets most of the cost.
  3. Check your content against the pixel count above. If it has to carry small text, come back a step and consider a finer pitch.
  4. Ask which cabinet will be used and what the finished dimensions will be. Price the buildable size, not the requested one.
  5. If the screen is outdoors in Bengaluru, check what content is permitted before ordering — the rules restrict video and moving displays.

Common questions

What is the price of an 8x12 LED wall in India?

An 8 × 12 ft screen is 96 sq ft, and LED is priced by area, so the cost depends almost entirely on pitch. An outdoor P4–P5 at that size falls in the indicative range shown above, excluding GST. A coarser P10 costs substantially less and a fine indoor pitch substantially more — for the same dimensions. Always compare the pitch and brightness before comparing totals.

Is 8x12 the width or the height?

Both orders are used. For a shop frontage it is normally 12 ft wide by 8 ft high; for a stage or wedding backdrop it is often 8 ft wide by 12 ft high. Say which number is the width when you enquire, because it changes the structure and the content layout.

Why is the screen I was quoted not exactly the size I asked for?

An LED wall is assembled from cabinets and must be a whole number of them in each direction. A 12 × 8 ft request built from 960 mm cabinets comes out at about 12.6 × 9.45 ft. That is roughly 24% more area, and since LED is sold by area, it costs more. Ask for the buildable dimensions in writing before paying an advance.

What resolution does an 8x12 LED wall have?

It depends entirely on pitch. At P4 a 12 × 8 ft screen is roughly 914 × 610 pixels; at P2.5 it is about 1,463 × 975; at P10 only about 366 × 244. A Full HD source is downscaled to fit, so at coarser pitches fine detail in your content will not survive.

What size LED wall do I need for a shop?

Work from the frontage width and the distance people read it from rather than from a standard size. Our sizing guide covers the method, including the legibility rule and the mistake of sizing to the shutter rather than to the reader.
