A solid LED screen in a shop window blocks the window. That is fine for a hoarding and a real problem for a showroom, where the frontage is doing two jobs: showing a message and showing the shop. Transparent LED exists for that conflict.
The construction is simple once seen. Instead of a continuous panel, the LEDs sit on narrow vertical strips with open space between them. From outside at a distance the eye merges the strips into an image; from inside, and from close up, you look straight through the gaps.
What transparency costs you
Nothing here is free, and the honest version is that transparent LED trades image quality for openness. The more you can see through it, the less screen there is.

Lead time and how it is priced
Being straightforward about this, because it affects planning more than the specification does.
Transparent LED is made to order. It is not held in stock — demand is low enough across the market that nobody sensibly warehouses it, and the panels are configured to the frontage rather than cut from a standard cabinet. Expect a materially longer lead time than a standard indoor screen, and build that into any date you are working to, particularly a store opening.
For the same reasons it is quoted per project rather than from a published rate. We would rather give you a real figure against your actual frontage than a per-square-foot number that turns out not to apply.
What we need to quote it
- The glazing dimensions, and whether the screen covers one bay or a run.
- How the glass is held — frame, spider fitting or structural glazing changes the mounting entirely.
- How much daylight the frontage gets, and at what time of day. West-facing retail is a different brightness problem from a covered mall unit.
- Whether it is fitted from inside, which is usual, and what access there is.
- What the content will be. If it is small text, transparent is likely the wrong product and we will say so.

Is a transparent LED screen as sharp as a normal one?
No, and that is inherent rather than a quality issue. Transparency means fewer LEDs in the same area, so the effective pitch is coarser and peak brightness is lower. It suits bold content read from the street, not fine text or detailed images.
How long does a transparent LED display take to supply?
Longer than a standard screen, because it is made to order rather than held in stock. If you are working to a store opening, raise it early — this is the product most likely to be the critical path on a shopfit.
Does it need the glass to be reinforced?
Usually not. Transparent panels are light and are normally carried on a slim frame fitted inside the glazing or suspended from the head, rather than bonded to the glass. How your glass is held — framed, spider-fitted or structurally glazed — decides the mounting, so we check it at survey.
