A rigid LED cabinet is flat, and flat is fine for the overwhelming majority of screens. Flexible LED exists for the cases where flat is the problem: a circular column in a mall atrium, a curved reception desk front, a cylindrical feature in a showroom. A rigid screen can approximate a curve by faceting it, but the facets are visible from an angle and the joints catch the light.
Where it is the right answer
- Wrapping a structural column — the single most common use, and the one a rigid screen handles worst
- Curved reception and counter fronts, where the screen follows joinery that already exists
- Cylindrical and drum features in atriums and showrooms
- Concave feature walls, where the curve is part of the architecture rather than applied to it
- Wave and ribbon forms in retail, where the shape is the point
Where a rigid screen is better
Worth saying plainly, because flexible is the more interesting product and that is not the same as the more suitable one.
If the wall is flat, use a rigid cabinet. It costs less, it is stiffer, it holds a flatter joint line, and there is no former to fabricate. Flexible is not a general-purpose upgrade — it solves a geometry problem, and where you do not have that problem it adds cost and complexity for nothing.
What actually decides the result
The panels bend; they do not choose the shape. What sets the shape is the former behind them — the fabricated frame the modules are mounted to. A well-made former gives a smooth, even curve and consistent joints. A poor one gives a curve that is subtly wrong in a way nobody can name but everybody notices.
So most of the risk in a curved screen sits in fabrication, not in the LED. That is worth knowing when comparing quotations: two that look similar can differ entirely in how the former is made and measured.
What we need to quote it
- The shape: convex, concave, full wrap or partial.
- The radius or the column diameter, measured rather than taken from a drawing.
- The height and the wrap width, or the arc if it is a partial wrap.
- How close people stand, which sets the pitch as it does on any screen.
- Whether the former exists already or has to be fabricated.
