Looking After an LED Display: A Practical Maintenance Guide
What actually fails, what it costs to put right, and the two habits that add years to a screen.
In Indian conditions an outdoor LED display almost never fails at the panel. It fails at the cable entry, the power supply, or through accumulated dust reducing brightness. All three are preventable, and none is expensive to prevent.
What actually goes wrong

The two habits that matter
Clean the panel face on a schedule. Dust reduces apparent brightness measurably within months, and most owners never notice because it happens gradually — they simply conclude the screen was never as bright as promised. Quarterly is right for most Indian cities; monthly for Delhi and other high-dust locations.
Dim it at night. Outdoor brightness is specified for midday sun. Running 6,000 nits after dark wastes 40–50% of the running cost, generates heat the cabinet then has to shed, and irritates neighbours. A scheduled brightness curve or an ambient light sensor is a controller setting, not extra hardware.
A realistic schedule
- Monthly: look at it after dark from where customers stand. Dead pixels and colour drift show up there first.
- Quarterly: clean the panel face. Soft brush and low-pressure air, never a pressure washer.
- Every six months: check cable entries and the controller enclosure for moisture ingress and corrosion.
- Annually: check structural fixings, particularly after a monsoon or in a high-thermal-range city.
What the warranty usually covers
Panels and control hardware against manufacturing defect, for the stated period. It generally does not cover water ingress through a badly sealed installation, physical damage, power surge, or degradation from lack of cleaning. Which is another reason to get the sealing right at installation.
